Mexican American Heritage

This course is designed to outline the basic history of Mexican-Americans. This course will focus on several important events and eras including the Aztecs, the Spanish conquest, the Mexican Revolution, the Mexican immigrant experience, the Chicano Movement, the Vietnam War and the modern day role of the Mexican Americans. We will also explore various works by Chicano/ Mexican poets and will read a novel to further our understanding of the Mexican culture. We will also examine current issues that surround the Latino community including: immigration, racial profiling, racism, and other issues. Towards the end of the semester we will examine other minority groups: Native Americans, Japanese Americans and African Americans.
