Our hearts go out to the families and staff involved in Wednesday’s tragedy at Douglas High School, in Florida. A tragedy such as this reminds us how precious life is. We hope and pray that nothing like that ever happens in our schools or community.
We take school safety very seriously and we practice our emergency response plans. All Dinuba Unified Schools have school safety and evacuation plans. We continually review and revise our safe school plans. Last year, we conducted a joint active shooter training exercise with the Dinuba Police Department at Washington Intermediate School. Our trainings include working directly with professional fire and police officials from our area. We plan to conduct another joint active shooter training later this year at Dinuba High.
We also partner with community health services to help our students and families who need support with social-emotional and other non-instructional issues. Our district operated parent resource and guidance center is a great resource for our families. They can be reached at 595-7380.
As a reminder, safety begins with each person, which includes staff, students, parents, and community members. If you see something suspicious, please report it to the appropriate school official or local law enforcement. We will be conducting parent forums at Washington and Roosevelt schools later this year and seeking dialogue with you regarding student safety.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our schools safe.
